Industrial Moves by CMCI
industrial moves

We often come across potential clients who believe because they have moved their households, moving their businesses will be similar and easy. While there are some aspects that do carry over, the logistics are very different. They vary as much as the contents being moved.

Most of the industrial moves we have managed have warehouses that include large machinery and shelving with many large and small parts and pieces. What is also true is that smaller businesses often believe that utilizing their own staff to move themselves will save money. On one industrial move that we oversaw, the client spoke to a vendor about moving a very large piece of machinery. The equipment was critical to the client’s operation. The vendor told this client it would take a week to de-install, move, and reinstall the equipment. This would mean the client would be out of business for a full week. After a short discussion between the client and CMCI, we determined the move did not need to happen with operational business closure. As a result, the client brought Corporate Move Consulting Inc (CMCI) on board.

We called the vendor to discuss the true logistics and what the client actually needed in terms of time and connectivity to complete the project. We talked to the client’s operations team to determine how that team works and what their needs would be during the move. CMCI’s recommendation was to add two hours to each workday prior to the move day. In addition, we scheduled the movers to start the relocation on Friday with the understanding that they had to have the machine up, reconnected and running in time for a test run on Sunday afternoon. The crew completed the job by 5 pm Saturday, enabling the client to do the test on Saturday night.

While this machine was being set up, we also conducted the move of the warehouse and offices, putting everything in place for a productive start on Monday morning. We accomplished a no-downtime move by looking at what the client needed to stay operational and by providing cost-saving and time-saving solutions.

On another move, Corporate Move Consulting Inc (CMCI) met with a plumbing company that stated a small moving company quoted them a full week to complete the move and operational . As a result, the plumbing company considered moving themselves. CMCI determined the cost to use their employees would be cost prohibitive. Plumbers are not movers and don’t have the hands-on knowledge nor the equipment to conduct moves safely. Companies must consider the safety risks utilizing non-professionals.

Further, the owner intended on figuring out how to manage the move and handle the details herself. I asked her if that was truly a good use of her time and asked if it might be better to hire someone with proven processes to ensure she had minimal downtime. CMCI got her business moved AND it stayed operational throughout the entire transitional period. It did not take a week. Actually, CMCI would have the client’s offices and warehouse moved over, starting late Thursday night, completed, upgraded and ready by Friday at 5 pm.

Moving an industrial company is complex and has nuances unique to each company. Hiring experts will save you headaches, time, and most importantly money which keeps you successfully working and operational throughout the move.
