The Importance of Open Communication in your Transition Team

August 12, 2021

One of the most overlooked aspects of a corporate, institutional, or healthcare transition is the importance of communication between all team members, no matter if they are internal or contracted to help. This is often due to a subconscious “us versus them” understanding of the external members of the project team. This mentality often leads to misunderstandings.

Just imagine what a nightmare it would be if, for instance, the equipment vendor did not communicate to facilities that a delivery was coming bright and early the next morning. Now the building is already busy with scheduled deliveries and all the dock space is taken, there’s no one to install the equipment, and you have a very disgruntled delivery person on your hands. Accidental slip ups like these occur all the time.

A big role of the move consultant is managing all communication and ensuring the right team members are on-site to handle the tasks as they arrive. An experienced consultant will make sure every person on the transition team is kept apprised of the plans so that no confusion ensues. This is why one of the first steps we complete on our projects is establishing a concrete communication plan, transition plan, and rules of the road. This information ensures the team is informed about how the facility operates and all criteria for deliveries.

Simply put, a transition cannot be successful without ample communication and trust in all team members—whether internal or external. If you are trying to handle a relocation on your own, and it seems like there is a lack of communication, it may be time to call in a move consultant to get the project back on track. At the end of the day, miscommunication can cost you thousands of dollars in corrections. Don’t let this common pitfall derail your transition.
