The presenters will then discuss the Common Application for AIA Design Awards\, which follows the Structure of the Framework for Design Excellence\, and they will review key strategies and common mistakes of Common App submission with the audience. \nThe Common Application is based on the AIA’s Framework for Design Excellence which seeks to inform progress toward a zero-carbon\, equitable\, resilient\, and healthy built environment. These are to be thoughtfully considered by designer and client at the initiation of every project and incorporated into the work as appropriate to the project scope. DESCRIPTION:The Jefferson Early Childhood Center in Alief ISD is a cutting edge facility for engaging our youngest students. The program takes an indepth approach to both outdoor experiences and play based learning to help the development of these young students. The classroom pods\, or “neighborhoods” surround a central building spine that shares administrative spaces\, instructional support and shared core enrichment spaces like indoor play\, art\, and music. Flood-resistant prairies are reinstated around the site to bring back the natural landscapes that are common in Houston.
