SUMMARY:AIA - Women in Architecture 2024 Equity Series
DESCRIPTION:The AIA Houston Women in Architecture Committee is pleased to announce the seventh annual Equity Series JUST Design!   \nArchitecture’s Role in Supporting Social and Environmental Equity \nExplore how Houston\, a dynamic metropolis\, grapples with “JUST Design” amid rapid growth and climate challenges\, prioritizing social and environmental justice. Shaped by a history of urban sprawl and redlining\, Houston’s architects reimagine spaces to address urban inequalities\, focusing on the unique impact on women and BIPOC communities.  Unveiling the city’s evolving architectural role\, the series spotlights innovative designs fostering inclusivity and combating environmental degradation. Examining projects and policies reveals a conscientious approach to urban development\, balancing economic prosperity\, social justice\, and sustainability. Amidst the global discourse on climate change and social equity\, Houston’s embrace of “JUST Design” becomes a beacon\, showcasing design’s transformative power for a more just and sustainable future.

SUMMARY:AIA - Soar to Heigh Heights: The Allen
DESCRIPTION:A city’s towers can define its place in the world\, producing a skyline that reveals a city’s identity almost instantly. But today the community rarely has to access those towers and the bird’s eye views they provide. Observation decks have closed or limited access to tenants only due to increasing security concerns. \nArCH’s Soar to High Heights tour series invites the community to explore the history of our local skyscrapers\, their architecture and of course access to the top. We will explore iconic and recently completed skyscrapers in Houston’s skyline. \nThe Residences at the Allen tower has redefined the skyline along Allen Parkway. The tower soars 42 stories overlooking one of Houston’s most popular recreational areas – Buffalo Bayou Park. \nJoin us for a tour of The Residences at the Allen with developer DC Partners and project archtiect HOK. \nThe new mixed-use development includes a hotel and coondominum tower\, a 22-story office building and 62\,000-square -foot retail pavilion. The Residences at the Allen luxury condominiums on upper levels have individual balconies with plunge pools. While the retail pavilion has smooth organic curves resembling a spaceship will be home to an expansive gym and high-end Mexican stakehouse Toca Madera.
